We're lucky to live in a location from which there are some great country walks and we love nothing more than heading out and going walkies!
Our favourite and most frequent walk is the three miles ramble down the canal to our nearest town Atherstone which takes about an hour. We always start by heading out through the beautiful churchyard of Grendon Church and then on to the main road, the B5000 and a brief walk along Spon Lane before meeting the canal towpath.
The walk is best for the lighter months as after the autumn clock change walking down a canal in the dark is not recommended! Guests staying with us over the winter months can still enjoy this walk, we just recommend you head out by midday so there is time to walk to Atherstone, enjoy some refreshments and head back before dusk. Although some guests enjoy visiting the pubs so much they get a taxi for the return trip, which is also an option!
Heading into Atherstone via the canal towpath means the first sign you have reached the town is by spotting the Kings Head pub on the right side of the canal. This is a lovely traditional pub with a nice pub garden in the summer. It's dog friendly, not too expensive or fancy and serves some nice pub food. After the Kings Head you can explore Atherstone by following the road past the train station and Tesco and onto Long Street which leads to the Market Square. Here you'll find some great pubs with our favourite being the Market Tavern which stocks an amazing range of ales, ciders and drinks, plus snacks. In our latest walk we enjoyed a Roast Pork Yorkshire Pudding wrap with gravy and extra pigs in blankets, plus treats for the doggies!
Fully fuelled we returned back to Home Farm by a different path via Sheepy Mill and footpaths over the fields making it a full six mile circular round trip.
As its one of our favourite walks we've detailed this route on a laminated guide which guests can borrow during their stay with us. We've detailed about six of our favourites so far, but being surrounded by footpaths to lots of lovely villages close by we promise if you stay with us there is always somewhere to go walkies too!
